Fine Line Design & the Designer

Kurt Bowden opened Fine Line Design, a residential design firm, in 1985. Over the past 33 years of designing homes, he has helped contractors, developers, & home owners in designing over 300 homes & hundreds of remodel & addition projects. He has also done municipal projects for the City of  Redding and several commercial structures as well.

Kurt draws from his hands-on experience from building homes & working in the door, window, & finish trades. His practical experience brings his designs a unique understanding of construction that is frequently lost in architectural work. International travel in twenty six countries around the world have given him a deep appreciation for multi-cultural and classical architecture. His reputation for quality, accuracy, professionalism, & easy to build structures have enabled him to build relationships with contractors that appreciate his approach to design.

His business philosophy is simple ... that the home owners should have the key role in the design of their home. He sees his role as an experienced voice that helps guide owners into making good decisions based on the family structure & lifestyle and the benefits of a well designed home. Kurt does not have a "signature style" that trademarks his homes. But, if the client is looking for a designer who can deliver a creative, one-of-a-kind custom home, Fine Line Design will deliver.

Although Kurt has designed many urban homes, his clients building on rural properties benefit a great deal from his understanding of site development. Power, water, solid waste systems, road & driveway access, & grading issues are all things that Kurt will help determine when needed. Helping owners understand how to make best use of exposures, natural & man made features, views, and existing topographical conditions to maximize the building site is where owners can greatly benefit. When possible, he encourages prospective clients to consult with him prior to purchasing a home site.
